Description

There’s nothing quite like the comforting aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies wafting through your kitchen. These cookies strike the perfect balance between chewy and crisp, loaded with gooey chocolate chips that melt in your mouth. This recipe is straightforward, beginner-friendly, and guaranteed to impress both family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed light brown sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Optional: 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

Fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts, if using).

Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.

  • Bake for 9–11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers still look slightly soft.

  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra chewy cookies, slightly underbake them and let them finish setting as they cool.

If you prefer crispier edges, leave them in the oven for an extra 1–2 minutes.

Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking if you want a thicker, bakery-style cookie.

These cookies pair perfectly with a glass of cold milk—or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert lovers.
