Description

My Chunky Strawberry Compote for Desserts is a cozy, simple, and sweet recipe bursting with fresh strawberry flavor. Perfect over sponge cake, pancakes, yogurt, or ice cream, it’s a treat that’s full of love and homemade goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Wash, hull, and halve the strawberries.
  2. In a saucepan, combine strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, and water.
  3. Cook over medium-low heat for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until strawberries release their juices.
  4. Check consistency; cook longer for thinner compote or stop earlier for chunky compote.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving; it will thicken as it cools.

Notes

Use ripe, fragrant strawberries for best flavor. Add cornstarch slurry for thicker compote if desired. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days; freeze for up to 3 months. Perfect over pancakes, sponge cake, yogurt, or ice cream.
