Description

These Matcha Mochi Brownies with Black Sesame are soft, chewy, and full of flavor. The earthy matcha powder blends with sweet mochiko brownies, while black sesame seeds add a nutty crunch. Optional white chocolate chunks create melty pockets in every bite, making this dessert both comforting and visually stunning.

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup mochiko (sweet rice flour)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • 1/4 cup black sesame seeds, plus extra for topping
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chunks (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt butter and stir in sugar until glossy.
  3. Whisk in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
  4. Sift together flour, mochiko, matcha, and salt; fold into wet mixture.
  5. Fold in black sesame seeds and optional white chocolate chunks.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan; smooth the top and sprinkle reserved sesame seeds.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes until edges are set and center is slightly sticky.
  8. Cool completely before slicing into squares.

Notes

Use high-quality matcha for a vibrant color. Lightly toast black sesame seeds to enhance flavor. Do not overbake to preserve the chewy mochi texture. Store in an airtight container or freeze for longer storage.
