- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (220g) packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 3 cups (375g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups (340g) semisweet chocolate chips
- Optional: 1 cup (100g) chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet mixture until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips (and nuts if using).
- Scoop dough onto baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
- Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are golden, centers soft.
- Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet, then transfer to wire rack.
Notes
Chill dough 30 minutes for thicker cookies. Don’t overmix flour for tender cookies. Store in airtight container up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
