Description

This Simple French Toast Recipe is a cozy, comforting breakfast that’s quick to make. Thick slices of bread soak in a sweet egg mixture and cook to golden perfection. Serve with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh fruits for a delightful start to your day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 slices day-old bread (brioche or challah preferred)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruits for serving

Instructions

  1. Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, sugar, and salt until smooth.
  2. Preheat skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter.
  3. Dip bread slices in the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  4. Cook 2–3 minutes per side until golden. Add more butter as needed.
  5. Keep cooked slices warm and repeat with remaining bread.
  6. Serve with syrup, powdered sugar, and fruits.

Notes

Use slightly stale bread for best results. Fry over medium heat for crisp edges. Make-ahead option: soak bread overnight in the custard mixture.
