- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cans (400 g each) chopped tomatoes
- 1 can (400 g) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (400 g) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp brown sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Sauté onion and garlic in olive oil until soft.
- Brown the ground beef and drain excess fat.
- Transfer beef to slow cooker.
- Add tomatoes, tomato paste, broth, beans, bell peppers.
- Stir in all spices and brown sugar.
- Cook on low 6–8 hours or high 3–4 hours.
- Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

- Brown beef for richer flavor.
- Add a splash of red wine or balsamic for depth.
- Mash a few beans for a thicker consistency.
- Stores 4 days in fridge, freezes 3 months.
