Description
This comforting fall dessert features a base of tender Granny Smith apple slices spiced with cinnamon, topped with a rich, buttery oat and pecan crumble. The pre-heated baking dish technique ensures a perfectly crisp texture throughout, balancing the tart fruit with a sweet, nutty crunch. It is an easy-to-make, rustic treat that fills your kitchen with the cozy aroma of toasted nuts and warm spices.
Ingredients
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (remaining amount)
1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Combine apple slices, two tablespoons of sugar, and one teaspoon of cinnamon in a large bowl and toss until coated.
Transfer the apple mixture into a greased nine-by-nine inch baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, and remaining cinnamon.
Cut the cold cubed butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Fold in the chopped pecans.
Spread the crumble mixture evenly over the apple base.
Bake for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
Notes
Pre-heating the baking dish helps the bottom of the crumble stay crisp rather than becoming soggy. You can substitute the all-purpose flour with almond flour for a gluten-friendly variation. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
