Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 cup granulated sugar
4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and sugar.
Cut the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
Press two-thirds of the mixture firmly into a parchment-lined baking pan to form the base.
Bake the base for 12 minutes until it is lightly golden.
In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla extract.
Evenly layer the seasoned apples over the partially baked crust.
Sprinkle the remaining flour mixture over the top of the apples.
Bake for an additional 35 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
Allow to cool completely before slicing into 16 bars.
Notes
Use a blend of Honeycrisp and Granny Smith apples for a deeper flavor profile. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
