Description

These tacos blend Mexican staples with a sweet chili glaze, offering tender, glazed beef in soft corn or flour shells. Caramelized notes harmonize with mild chili warmth, ensuring bold yet balanced flavor for lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb (450g) *80% lean ground beef*
4 *soft corn taco shells* (substitute soft flour shells if preferred)
1 large *red bell pepper* (or green/yellow bell pepper)
3 *cloves garlic*, minced or grated
2 tbsp *chili powder* (preferably halal-certified Trout’s brand)
1 cup *grated onion* (pre-shredded works)
1 tbsp *corn oil*
2 tbsp *light brown sugar*
1 tbsp *fresh lime juice* (adjust to taste)

Instructions

Heat 1/2 cup corn oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add diced red bell pepper and grated onion; cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.
Add ground beef to the skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes, breaking into small pieces until browned and crumbly.
Incorporate chili powder and 1 tsp salt. Add 1/2 cup water, reduce heat to medium, and simmer for 10 minutes to meld flavors and reduce liquid.
Stir in brown sugar and lime juice. Simmer 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens and the beef glistens. Adjust spice with an optional 1 tsp chili powder.
Warm the taco shells and fill with the beef mixture. Top with minced scallions or halal-certified cilantro if permitted. Serve with a lime wedge.

Notes

For halal compliance, verify chili powder, lime juice, and toppings are certified. Use soft flour shells if corn is unavailable. The glaze thickens further after cooling; adjust quality as needed. Rest beef after browning for better texture.
