Description
This comforting apple crisp features a beautiful contrast between tender, spiced Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples and an incredibly crunchy, buttery oat topping. The combination of brown sugar and rolled oats creates a rich, caramelized crust that stays perfectly crispy. It is the ultimate crowd-pleasing dessert, perfect for any family gathering or dinner party, and highlights the rustic charm of fresh fruit at its finest.
Ingredients
6 cups Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned)
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 tbsp lemon juice (for the fruit mixture)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Peel, core, and slice the apples into uniform quarter-inch thick pieces.
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
Pour the melted butter over the dry ingredients and stir until the mixture resembles coarse, wet sand with visible clumps.
Distribute the topping generously over the apples in an even layer.
Bake for 45 minutes until the fruit is tender and the topping is golden brown.
Notes
Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven to maintain the crunch of the topping.
