Description

This classic Southern-style peach cobbler features juicy, caramelized peaches topped with a light, buttery biscuit crust. Using a seasoned 10-inch cast iron skillet ensures even heat distribution, resulting in a perfectly bubbly base and a gorgeous, golden-brown top. It is the ultimate rustic summer dessert, celebrating peak-season fruit with simple, high-quality ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale

6 cups fresh peaches, sliced 1/2 inch thick
1 cup granulated sugar, divided
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup whole milk
1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F.
Toss the sliced peaches with 1/2 cup of sugar and the cinnamon in a large bowl.
Transfer the peach mixture into the bottom of a 10-inch cast iron skillet in an even layer.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar, and baking powder.
Stir in the milk and melted butter until just combined.
Pour the batter evenly over the peaches without mixing.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the topping is deep golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let rest for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

If fresh peaches are out of season, high-quality frozen peach slices work reliably. Do not overmix the batter to ensure a tender, biscuit-like texture rather than a dense cake. Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
