Description
This classic Cinnamon Apple Crisp is a quintessential autumn dessert that perfectly balances tender, spiced orchard fruits with a crunchy, buttery oat topping. By using a blend of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples, you ensure the filling remains firm and delicious. This easy-to-make treat is elevated by the warmth of ground cinnamon and a touch of salt to balance the sweetness, resulting in the perfect textural contrast in every bite.
Ingredients
6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
1 tsp ground cinnamon (for filling)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup old fashioned oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)
1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Combine peeled and sliced apples with granulated sugar and one teaspoon of cinnamon in a large mixing bowl.
Toss the apple mixture thoroughly until evenly coated.
Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9×9 inch square baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, and salt.
Cut the cold, cubed butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the prepared apple layer.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for ten minutes before serving.
Notes
Select apples that hold their shape well, like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, to prevent the filling from becoming mushy. Ensure you use cold butter to achieve the signature crispy, crumbly texture. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
