Ingredients
6 cups Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp sugar (for apple filling)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
2 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Peel, core, and slice the apples into uniform half-inch pieces.
Toss the apples with lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of sugar in a bowl.
Spread the apples evenly into a greased 9×9 inch baking dish.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, oats, cinnamon, and brown sugar.
Use a pastry cutter or fingers to cut in the cold butter until the mixture is crumbly.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple layer.
Bake for 45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
Notes
Add a pinch of nutmeg to the topping for extra warmth. Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
