- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray.
- Heat water, milk, butter, and salt until boiling.
- Add flour and stir until dough forms.
- Cook briefly until smooth.
- Cool slightly, then add eggs one at a time.
- Mix in cheese and seasoning.
- Pipe or spoon dough onto tray.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden.
Notes
Use room temperature eggs for a smoother dough. Freshly grated cheese gives better flavor and melting. Do not open the oven early to prevent collapsing. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat before serving.
