Description

This ultimate comfort dessert features tender, cinnamon-spiced Granny Smith apples topped with a buttery, golden-brown oat streusel. It strikes the perfect balance between warm fruit and a crispy, crunchy texture that remains a timeless favorite. By using cold butter, the topping develops distinct, delightful clusters, making this a reliable and foolproof treat for any family gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced into 1/2 inch wedges
1 cup old fashioned oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp granulated sugar (for apple toss)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peel, core, and slice the apples into uniform pieces.
Toss the apple slices with one tablespoon of sugar and one teaspoon of cinnamon in a large bowl.
Spread the fruit mixture evenly into a greased 9×9 inch baking dish.
In a separate medium bowl, combine the oats, flour, remaining sugar, and cinnamon.
Cut the cold cubed butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple base without packing it down.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling.

Notes

Ensure butter is kept cold before mixing to prevent a greasy topping. Do not use quick oats as they lack the desired texture. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
