Ingredients
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for apple mixture)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9×9 inch baking dish with butter.
In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with two tablespoons of sugar and half of the cinnamon.
Spread the seasoned apples evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, remaining brown sugar, and remaining cinnamon.
Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the dish.
Bake for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling.
Notes
Ensure the butter is cold to achieve the best crumb texture. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
