Description
A refreshing blend of tart citrus and natural sweetness, this homemade lemonade uses fresh lemons, sugar, and water for a clean, vibrant flavor. Customize with optional mint or basil for extra aroma.
Ingredients
Organic lemons, 4 large
Granulated sugar, 1 cup
Cold water, 4 cups
Ice cubes, as needed
Fresh mint leaves, optional
Instructions
Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup warm water in a saucepan. Stir until fully dissolved.
Grate the outer yellow rind of 2 lemons using a microplane. Discard white pith.
Cut remaining lemons in half and squeeze juice into a measuring cup—target 1½ cups liquid.
In a pitcher, combine lemon zest, juice, simple syrup, and 3 cups cold water. Stir well.
Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness. Top with remaining water and ice cubes.
Notes
Use Meyer lemons for a milder flavor.
Adjust sugar to taste; try honey or agave as alternatives.
Strain mixture through a fine mesh to remove pulp.
Chill pitcher in the freezer for 15 minutes before serving for maximum refreshment.
