Ingredients
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced into 1/2 inch wedges
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1.5 cups old fashioned oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
0.75 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar, the cornstarch, and 0.5 teaspoons of the cinnamon.
Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and spread into an even layer.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the remaining brown sugar, flour, oats, and the rest of the cinnamon.
Using a pastry cutter, cut the cold cubed butter into the oat mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apple base.
Bake for 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
Notes
Ensure the butter is kept cold until the moment you cut it into the dry ingredients to guarantee a crisp, buttery topping. For an extra crunch, you can add half a cup of chopped walnuts to the topping mixture.
